The NFIP offers flood insurance to homeowners, renters, and\nbusiness owners if their community participates in the NFIP. Participating\ncommunities agree to adopt and enforce ordinances that meet or exceed FEMA\nrequirements to reduce the risk of flooding. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Flood insurance protects two types of insurable\nproperty: building and contents. The first covers your building, the latter\ncovers your possessions; neither covers the land they occupy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Building coverage includes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The insured building and its foundation<\/li><li>The electrical and plumbing systems<\/li><li>Central air conditioning equipment,\nfurnaces, and water heaters<\/li><li>Refrigerators, cooking stoves, and\nbuilt-in appliances such as dishwashers<\/li><li>Permanently installed carpeting over\nunfinished flooring<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Contents coverage includes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Clothing, furniture, and electronic\nequipment<\/li><li>Curtains and window coverings<\/li><li>Portable and window air conditioners<\/li><li>Portable microwaves and dishwashers<\/li><li>Carpeting that is not already included in\nproperty coverage<\/li><li>Washers and dryers<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The two most common reimbursement methods for flood\nclaims are: Replacement Cost Value (RCV) and Actual Cash Value (ACV). RCV is\nthe cost to replace damaged property. It is reimbursable to owners of single-family,\nprimary residences insured to within 80% of the buildings replacement cost. All\nother buildings and personal property (i.e. contents) are valued at ACV, which\nis the RCV at the time of loss, minus physical depreciation.
